Name: David Mark McKelvey. Prefers to be called Dave, but teachers will call him by David, as that is what would be on their class lists.
Age: 11
Appearance: Here are some expanded details for this category:
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 135Lbs
Eyes: Yellowish/green colour. They tend to change from each colour to the other randomly, though it is rarely noticeable.
Hair: Short, brown hair. Always worn down, bangs straight across the forehead.
Physical Description: Dave can be seen as fair-skinned, or pale. He's not bad looking in terms of his face, which has no freckles, but has a very faint scar across his right cheek, which is barely noticeable, which was caused when he was first born (true story ), but it is very insignificant, and is rarely noticed by anyone. Dave is tall and lean, as he is a seasoned swimmer during his time away from school. In his spare time, Dave is often seen wearing baggy clothes, which usually includes a large, hooded sweater, and baggy jeans. In the summer time, coloured T-shirts are Dave's upper attire of choice.
Personality: Dave is an extremely independent person who often likes to keep to himself. It is very uncommon for Dave to take the opinions of anyone but himself to heart, as he has many doubts about the intelligence of other people until they prove their potential to him. This is, indeed, a negative quality, which leads Dave to be somewhat self-centered, demeaning, and egotistical. Dave likes to consider himself a self-driven intellectual, not relying on other people for anything. Due to this quality, Dave is usually not very eager to interact with people he is not familiar with. This, however, is also due to Dave's shyness around people he does not know, as he usually fears what others will think of him, and that his attitudes easily lead to other people disliking him.
Around his friends, Dave is often very verbal about things, as he does not like to beat around the bush about anything; he likes to tell things how they are, as he feels that wasting time with euphemisms and the potential embarrassment is pointless. He can be very direct, but this quality is seen as somewhat positive to those seeking guidance from him, as he does not sugar coat anything, and will usually tell the truth. Dave bases his thinking around simple logic, as opposed to his emotions. He will often ignore his feelings to go with what is logical, even if it has a negative effect on his mood.
Dave is much more comfortable around his friends than he is with unfamiliar people, and is much more open when he is around them. Dave's conversations often contain many sarcastic jokes, and double meanings, as he finds humor in them. All around, when he is around his friends, Dave is a positive guy, but when around strange people, he does not like breaking the ice, and prefers to keep to himself. When it comes to friendship, Dave is reliable for guidance and moral support, as friends often come to him with problems, seeing as they know that he will be frank with them; Dave values his friendships, and will do anything to keep his friends happy.
Dave is a very independent thinker, and likes to ask questions when it comes to things he is unfamiliar with. Dave is the type of person that, when he finds out about a new subject he knows nothing about, he will go to many lengths to educate himself to the best of his abilities. He likes to think about philosophical things, and theories, as he feels that thinking about the unknown expands his ability to think creatively when it comes to more practical things. Though Dave considers himself to have a supreme intellect, and he is male, he does not let his feelings of pride, or his ego, take over his personality. He will usually try not to make someone look like, or feel, stupid, unless he has a certain distaste for the person. Though he is male, and is very big, he is not an aggressive person, who avoids physical violence, and violence in general, by any means necessary. The reasoning behind this is that fights never end well, and Dave takes pride in keeping a clean record when it comes to school, and places his grades above all other things.
If I may, I would prefer to be sorted into Ravenclaw, as I feel that Dave's fuel is his quest for knowledge, and, despite some of the negative qualities he has that may place him in Slytherin, he is not so bad at heart. As for Gryffindor, I don't think he has the the correct traits required, as he's not much of a courageous, righteous person. But, alas, the decision is yours, but I would like it if my points were taken into account. Thank you.
History: Dave was born in a budding city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, where he has lived throughout his entire life. Dave grew up without a father, but rather, with a single mother. He did, however, grow up with a stepdad, to whom he looked up to with great respect, and considered his real dad anyway. Dave was brought up to respect other people, and to have manners, which rubbed off on him pretty well, as he is very courteous when it comes to his elders, such as teachers or people in authority. Dave is an only child, the only other children in his family being his cousins. In the early stages of his life, Dave lived in an apartment with his mother her twin sister, until they moved to a house when he was eight years old, where he still lives to this day.
Dave's first sign of magic occurred when family problems arose one Christmas Eve. Witnessing a fight between close family members of his, he felt extreme anger at the perpetrators. Clenching his fists, he trembled with rage. He yelled at the top of his lungs for the fighting to stop, and at that moment, all of the windows on that floor of the house shattered violently. Feeling very distressed by this paranormal occurrence, Dave's mom placed him into therapy, where he encountered a very odd man who asked him a series of questions, none of which made much sense. (This is my version of Dumbledore "interviewing" Tom Riddle as a boy, to see if he is a worthy Hogwarts candidate) The therapist cleared Dave of any mental problems, and, during the next summer, Dave received a start as a large barn owl entered his room through an open window, dropping an official looking, sealed envelope into his lap. It was addressed to David McKelvey, Second Door on the Right, The McKelvey Residence.
